A Laboratory Assistant I performs phlebotomy, alliquoting, registration , use of the centrifuge and drug screens(Dry bath). Lab Assistant also must be able to do the manifests and order and maintain supply's at the PSC.

Job Responsibilities include:

  1. Performs proper venipuncture and post care of phlebotomy site along with labeling each specimen with 2 forms of ID with zero labeling errors*
  2. Perform registration and requisitioning and proper use of Meditech, Accureg and Cayuga connect*
  3. Run individual batches in a timely manner for courier pickup*
  4. Maintains adequate inventory and is proficient in ordering supplies*
  5. Uses shift to shift communication book and maintains all checklists*
  6. Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, HIPPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelines*
  7. Cooperates with coworkers and other hospital staff
  8. Maintains positive attitude, communicates with others in a positive and respectful manner
  9. Receives specimens from the public accurately and timely. *
  10. Is flexible and willing to make changes for the benefit of the team

* Essential

Physical Demands: May require light lifting (up to10 ponds) and carrying supplies. Repetitive use of hands (e.g. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary.

Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent is required and vocational phlebotomy (or related) course/program OR 2 years of phlebotomy experience

Additional Qualifications: Good written and oral communication skills preferred. Require ability to prioritize work manage and adjust changes in work volumes. Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred.
