HIM Coding Manager
Job Summary: The HIM Coding Manager is responsible for the coding of inpatient and outpatient accounts, oversees the coding team, developing goals and objectives, and establishing policies and procedures for team operations, as well as ensuring proficiency, value and education related to professional coding guidelines. This position is responsible for positioning the Coding operation for financial and operational sustainability, and proactively identifying and responding to internal and industry trends in addition to overseeing the development and communication of established performance targets, key performance indicators, and other departmental performance goals.
Job Responsibilities include:
- - Manage coding workflow daily, assigning staff assignments daily.
- - Perform routine coding audits, monitor coder accuracy, and implement coding education
- - Training and educating current and new staff as appropriate
- - Works with other departments and attends meetings as requested.
- - Builds team collaboration, and holds regular staffing meetings.
- - Works closely with Schuyler Hospital and Cayuga Medical Associates HIM Departments as appropriate.
- - Responsible for maintain coding edits and bill holds. Work closely with the Revenue Cycle team as appropriate.
- - Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.
Requirements:
Education Two year degree in Health Information Management or related field required. Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
Experience Five or more years of combined experience in coding and auditing. Ten years of extensive coding experience in a hospital setting will be accepted in lieu of a two-year degree. Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
Licensure RHIT or RHIA required. CCS preferred, in addition.
Physical Requirements The position requires a high degree of mental and visual concentration. No lifting requirements. Requires long period of sitting, with repetitive motion.
