A cytotechnologist in the anatomical pathology department is responsible for the accurate preparation, evaluation, and interpretation of both gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. The cytotechnologist participates in fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures to provide an immediate adequacy evaluation.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Cytology OR science related discipline with a certificate from an approved cytology training program.
Licensure: NYS Cytotechnologist license (or eligible), ASCP certification in Cytotechnology (or eligible)
Physical requirements: Able to endure long periods of sitting at microscope; requires visual acuity and normal color perception. Able to perform light lifting, up to 40 pounds. Repetitive use of hands and standing for long periods of time is often necessary.
