Job Summary: Manage oncology services to ensure all requirements for an approved cancer program set forth by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC) and the NYS DOH are met. Oversee cancer data collection, quality management, cancer data analysis, and data submission to the CoC, National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), and the NYS Health Department Cancer Registry. Plan and coordinate cancer committee and multidisciplinary cancer conferences to enhance the growth of the cancer program. Serve as liaison between the medical center's cancer program and the NYS Health Department and the CoC. Provide support to physician leaders for multidisciplinary cancer conferences, cancer committee and other committees. Collaborate with cancer program leadership team for the CoC survey.

Job Responsibilities: (Please limit this to 10 core responsibilities as opposed to a total list of tasks)

  • *Maintain CoC standards/requirements for CoC accreditation for ensuring patient-centered care.
  • *Maintain DOH regulations compliance.
  • *Provide organizational/administrative oversight and support to the cancer program to facilitate the accreditation process.
  • *Maintain and expand knowledge of current trends and developments in oncology, oncology data services, and cancer program management.
  • *Oversee certified tumor registrar, data analyst, and data specialist & conduct yearly performance evaluations.
  • *Oversee Cancer Committee documentation, program coordinators, and Multidisciplinary Cancer Conferences under the direction of the Cancer Committee.
  • *Participate in other oncology activities to facilitate the goals of the cancer program.
  • *Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.

Requirements Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies governing release of information, use of medical records and research and NYS reporting requirements.

Safeguards for maintaining confidentiality of protected health information.

Knowledge of guidelines for reportable case identification; active and passive case finding methods and sources; staging systems and their use; diagnostic and staging procedures; prognostic indicators; specialty lab testing methods; types and characteristics of cancer; medical terminology; multiple primary/histology rules; hematopoietic and lymphoid rules; human anatomy and physiology.

  • Education: Successful completion and continued educational maintenance of CTR per NYS DOH and CoC regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum (3) years' experience in a hospital-based cancer registry (CoC approved facility preferred).
