The OR Charge Nurse will have responsibility for the day to day CMC operations. This person will identify, plan and implement and evaluate processes to improve outcomes while ensuring compliance with ongoing monitoring plans addressing quality and regulatory improvements. Partner with staff to optimize culture of safety efforts, assuring compliance with risk avoidance strategies. BSN Required. Successful applicant must have minimum (2) years as charge operating room charge nurse. The Charge Nurse collaborates the clinical management and administrative coordination of a designated patient care unit. The position supports the achievement of Cayuga Medical Center goals and objectives. The Charge Nurse is a resource for patient care. The Charge Nurse is also responsible for supervising patient care staff and operations and/or for coordinating one or more administrative functions as assigned.

  • Assist with the coordination of day-to-day activities of the nursing unit.
  • Prepares and manages staff schedules. Manages timekeeping / scheduling systems. Delegates and adjusts assignments for the total patient population based on acuity and available staff.
  • Directs the flow of patients following established department policies on a consistent basis. Leads huddles to ensure staff has adequate knowledge of patients, plan for the day, CMC wide information and provides staff recognition when applicable.
  • Influences others to follow CMC policies, procedures and unit protocols. Interprets these to other staff members, including their legal implications based on the Nurse Practice Act and regulations that govern practice.
  • Serves as a resource to all staff. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with CMC guidelines and consistent with nursing program goals and objectives. Participates in ongoing coaching, training and goal setting for the performance development program. Provides patient care appropriate to age and condition of patient.
  • Serves as a role model, mentor and assisting with unit workload as needed.
  • Job Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing BSN required Experience Minimum of two years of progressive and recent relevant nursing experience and management .License/Certification: Current NY RN. American Heart Association BLS Certification Relevant departmental certification as required (CNOR)

Ability to initiate and implement change conducive to the improvement of the quality and safety of patient care delivery.
